This project involved the complete restructuring of a resources/library management system for the employees of a large global company, including database modeling, front-end and back-end user interface design, and the addition of several new features. Bascially, we started from scratch.
The Member Resource Center is run by the Human Resources department and handles all learning resources available to company employees, such as classroom training, seminars, University programs, and books and other media.
A large part of the project was the creation of a searchable catalogue, a rating/feedback system, a personalized wish list/achievements page, and a course calendar and complete course-registration interface.
On the back-end part, apart from the catalogue maintenance functions, several reporting and administration tools where implemented as well as course administration and management tools. Advanced features include: library check-in/check-out system (up to features such as printing package slips for shipping out items), complete class registration tools (including sending reminder emails, monitoring attendance, printing class sign-up sheets).
The Member Resource Center is fully integrated into the De Lage Landen intranet infrastructure ("The Source"), the employee database, and other intranet applications such as on-line training courses.
My involvement with this project included database modelling/programming (Oracle, SQL) interface design and implementation (XHTML, CSS), and client-side and back-end coding (JavaScript, ASP/VBScript) of 63 production files.
